In a major move the income tax department has made it possible for TDS returns to be filed on the income tax e filing website. (http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ )
This is great news for TDS deductors who found TRACES difficult and cumbersome. They will now be able to upload their TDS return without TRACES.
Do note that for now only regular TDS statements (from Assessment Year 2011-12 onwards) can be uploaded on the income tax e filing website, correction statements will still have to be uploaded through https://www.tin-nsdl.com/
Here are the pre-requisites to uploading your TDS statement on the income tax website –
- You must hold a valid TAN and it should be registered in e-filing – click here to understand how to register you TAN.
- TDS statement which you want to upload should be prepared using RPU (Return Preparation Utility) and validated using FVU (File Validation Utility) – Prepare your TDS statement here.
- Valid DSC registered for e-filing
